Usher and Greeter Ministry

The Usher and Greeter Ministry is a group of volunteers that serve as a friendly and welcoming face of St. Bernadette’s parish. We are always looking for volunteers that are interested in offering a smile and a few words of greeting to fellow parishioners and visitors.

Ushers and Greeters are a very important part of our church as they create a friendly, yet reverent atmosphere for all parishioners/visitors as they enter before each mass.

Before the service: Beginning 15 minutes before mass, they check entry ways, pews, and the sanctuary to make sure everything is unlocked, clear, clean, safe and comfortable. They prepare materials like bulletins, music sheet and any special program materials or offering envelopes.

During the service: Ushers and greeters welcome everyone with a warm smile and a heartfelt greeting, pass out bulletins, music sheets and any other special program materials needed. They choose a family or others to present the gifts to the priest. They guide parishioners and visitors to seating and help anyone with special needs to find proper seating. They manage the collections (following procedures to turn over collections to finance team) count attendees and direct the flow of parishioners during communion. They may need to assist anyone that becomes ill or needs additional assistance.

After the service: They tidy up the pews, pick up and dispose of trash (as needed) and then secure the building.

General information: Usher’s attire should be business casual. Men, women and high school students are welcome to become ushers and greeters.
